For centuries people have been amazed by the wonders of Hawaii Volcanoes. SInce Hawaii Volcano Eruptions are much gentler than regular volcano eruptions, people have been able to get up close and personal with the actual eruption. This is what grasped the attention of some many people. In 1906, a man named Lorri Thurston started a campaign to turn the beautiful area into a national park. Thurston with his partner Dr. Jagger, continued to campaign for the area to be made into a park for years to come. Then, on August 1, 1916 President Woodrow Wilson finally made Hawaii Volcanoes the nation's 13th national park. From that point on, the park has grown and developed into a beautiful area for vistors from all over the world to enjoy.
